Sconce Privacy Policy
Effective date: 2 September 2026
The short version
- Your characters, sheets, and roll log live only in a local database on your device. There is no account and no server; nothing about your characters is ever sent to us.
- A backup you create leaves your device only when you choose to share or save that file yourself.
- Free use shows banner ads, served by Google AdMob, never during play. Unlocking Pro removes them.
- No analytics or crash-reporting SDK is included in the app.
What the app stores, and where
Character sheets, stats, the roll log, and app preferences (theme, whether Pro is unlocked) live in one local SQLite database, sconce.sqlite, in the app's private storage on your device. Nothing in it is transmitted to the developer or to any server we operate. There isn't one. It is readable only by the app and by you, through the app's own backup feature.
Backups you create
“Back up all characters” in Settings writes one file holding every character and hands it to your device's own share sheet. Where it goes after that, whether a cloud drive, an email, or a local folder, is your choice; the app does not upload it anywhere on its own. “Restore from a backup” reads a file you pick the same way and never contacts a server to do it.
Advertising (Google AdMob)
Unless you've unlocked Pro, the app shows banner ads on the character list and other browse screens, never on the play screen itself. Ads are served by Google's google_mobile_ads SDK. Requesting an ad can share information with Google including the request itself, a device or advertising identifier, approximate location derived from IP address, and app/version information, used for ad delivery, frequency capping, and fraud prevention.
Before any ad is requested, users in the EU, EEA, and UK see a consent form (Google's User Messaging Platform) asking whether personalised ads are allowed. Declining still shows ads, just not tailored ones. If consent cannot be obtained for any reason, the app shows no ads rather than requesting them anyway.

Unlocking Sconce Pro removes ads (and the AdMob requests behind them) entirely.
In-app purchases
Sconce Pro is bought through the Google Play Store (and, in the future, the Apple App Store). Payment details are handled entirely by the store under its own privacy policy; the app never receives or stores them. The entitlement itself, whether Pro is unlocked, is a flag in the local database described above, not an account we can look up.
What this app does not do
No account or sign-up. No analytics or crash-reporting SDK. No tracking across other apps or websites beyond what Google AdMob itself performs for ad delivery, described above. Nothing to sell or share, because no character data ever leaves your device unless you explicitly export and send it yourself.
Children
Sconce is not directed at children under 13 and the developer does not knowingly collect personal data from them.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the effective date above will be updated and the new version posted at the same URL.
